Learning Intention:
To understand the history of Ki o Rahi
What is Ki o Rahi?
Ki o Rahi is a traditional Maori game that our students will be practically analyzing this term in sports leadership. They will be identifying a number of attacking and defensive strategies that they will use during our practical lessons. The first attacking strategy that the students will focus on is understanding the knowledge of the zones that specific students will be allowed in. There are three different zones, starting from the inside out. The zones are wairua, pawero and te ao.
Success Criteria:
For my students to feel success based on their learning intention will need to understand the rules and where they are not or are able to go. Focusing on one team at a time will be helpful so they are not confused on the different zones during their practical lesson. I also feel that when they collaborate and work together will help them become more familiar with each zone.

Kia ora LeRoy,
ReplyDeleteUsing Ki o Rahi for your learners is a great way to bring a part of Māori culture to light. I would love to see a video of your learners playing this game.
Ngā mihi,
Maria
