Ki o Rahi Assessment

Learning Intention: Assessment 4 (Ki o Rahi)

Year 12 sport leadership students are being assessed on demonstrating a number of skills and descriptors during Ki o Rahi. This is a new sport that we will be focusing on this year. Ki o Rahi is an excellent sport for our students to learn is so that they are able to understand Maori tikanga through traditional Maori games. Once students perform specific skills, I will be able to document their results.

Success Criteria (How can I achieve this?)

I believe that my class can complete and consistently demonstrates these skills above. With the help of their team they will be able to demonstrate social responsibility to a standard they should be proud of.

What is Ki o Rahi?

Learning Intention:

To understand the history of Ki o Rahi

What is Ki o Rahi?

Ki o Rahi is a traditional Maori game that our students will be practically analyzing this term in sports leadership. They will be identifying a number of attacking and defensive strategies that they will use during our practical lessons. The first attacking strategy that the students will focus on is understanding the knowledge of the zones that specific students will be allowed in. There are three different zones, starting from the inside out. The zones are wairua, pawero and te ao.

Success Criteria:

For my students to feel success based on their learning intention will need to understand the rules and where they are not or are able to go. Focusing on one team at a time will be helpful so they are not confused on the different zones during their practical lesson. I also feel that when they collaborate and work together will help them become more familiar with each zone.

Nau mai haere mai and Welcome to my Blog

Kia Ora whanau my name is Leroy Paul. As a beginning teacher I am really excited to be given the opportunity to work alongside our students here at Papakura High School.

I have a passion for kapa haka, sport, singing, music and performing arts. I strongly believe that the students are a reflection of the teacher and therefore am committed to transferring the knowledge and skills that I have to students within Papakura High School.
